High Bridge is a town built upon the River Ratterlin[1]. It started as a castle built on a natural bridge where the Ratterlin flows into a deep gorge four hundred and forty feet below. In the years of Interregnum many houses were built beside it as it was safe from the Dead, resulting in a settlement including windmills, forges, and inns about a mile long (although narrow).
The river is constantly patrolled by guard boats where it flows under the town. On the south-east of the river, after the bridge, there is a quay with twelve jetties forming the main river port of High Bridge.
Lirael[]
Lirael sails under High Bridge with the Clayr's boat Finder and is the victim of two unsuccessful assassination attempts. The first time the boat tacks and knocks Lirael out of the way as they move into the bridge's shadow. The second time Sameth casts an arrow ward as they emerge from beneath the bridge. The Disreputable Dog forces the assassin to walk into the river using the powers of Kibeth.
